A little help for fanfic urges...?
Lately, I've taken to writing drabbles and fanfic snippets in an old battered notebook to kill time while commuting to/from work (that is, when I'm not falling asleep on the bus). It's kind of nice to get back into writing random stuff again- I miss having to write without really worrying about much. I wish PotW isn't currently giving me so much headache though...because it'd be nice to finish off that last 5% of chapter 19 so that I can update without waiting another year or something. >_>; I'm thinking of doing a cookie/drabble series project for PotW too, but I'll see. ^^;

But anyhow- my point (yes, I actually had one) is if any of you feel like chucking out unrefined ideas or some kind of fic challenge that I can tackle? I've been wanting to try my hand at different kinds of writing for different characters than the ones I've written before. Or something. I guess I just want something to mull over and daydream about while I'm commuting. All I've been writing is ShikaTema drabbles (some of which are posted at [info]inkcanvas)...but I also want to write other stuff. I don't really know which of you are still reading fanfics or are interested in it enough to chuck out challenges at me, but I thought I'd ask anyway. ^^; Any pairing is fine, with the exception of yaoi/slash...just because I can't write those even if my life depended on it. -_-;; And obviously, it'd have to be from a fandom I'm familiar with though...like Naruto, Hana Yori Dango, NANA, or something like that. Or even for PotW. Whatever goes, I just want something to get my brain rolling. ^_^

On a completely irrelevant note, I just wanted to thank you for the responses you left for the last post. I didn't reply to them...because I couldn't formulate a reply to convey my thoughts in a proper way- but I wanted to let you know that the comments that were left brought a lot of peace for me. It calmed me down and made me step back a little to berate myself for being stupid again. *hugs you*

FRF! Hee...you know, it's just occurred to me that I don't even know your real name. *_* I just see you and go "ForeverRainFall!!" ^^;; I've known you for a few years now...that's just sad. :(

Um, other than ShikaTema?

Maybe I can get you into the AsuKure fandom. It is quite small, yet populated by some very good writers.

I wanted to continue writing ShikaTema...though I keep coming up with tons of one-shots and drabbles that I'm not satisfied with. I have 10 or so typed up and stuffed in the back of my computer waiting for me to be happy with them. Woe. That's why I was looking for something else to tackle- I'm beginning to think that I'm just not very good at ShikaTema even though I love them to death. :p

I'm actually a Asuma/Kurenai fan too, mainly because I love seeing them together in the series. I've never actually participated in the fandom discussions though- but I'm probably going to look into them and read a few of their fics to get a feel of this pairing (glad to know there are good writers for AsuKure). Is there a community that houses fics for these two? Thanks for the suggestion, btw! :)

Well, there is [info]asukure, but it's rather inactive. I comb the 'Net (or at least LJ) for AsuKure fics every now and then, so I've got the best ones sitting in my memories. I can think of a couple that I haven't archived yet, but I know where they are ([info]iamzuul and [info]kilerkki are two big AsuKure fans, and they've written shorts). I should probably go and put them in my memories.

Really, I think I've got one of the largest quality AsuKure collections on LJ. o_O

As for ShikaTema, hell, I don't think I hit them quite right either, but practice makes perfect, you know? If anything, you can post them and f-lock 'em.

I'm rather surprised at how small the AsuKure fandom is (or at least it sounds like it). I always thought it'd be one of those popular pairings- it's practically canon already too. I'm going to have to check those links out, as well as, your AsuKure collections. ^_^ I saw them as I was browsing your journal a while ago, but I haven't had time to sit down and properly enjoy them. Will definitely be doing so this weekend. :)

Bah, what are you talking about? I love your ShikaTema fics. They're honestly one of the best ones I've come across. I was really happy when I discovered them- especially since I think there's a lacking of good ShikaTema fics. :\

I concur. ;__________; I actually lamented the state of ShikaTema fic not too long ago.

I try very hard to stay true to Shikamaru and Temari, but sometimes it's not quite up to my exacting and really freakin' high standards. It could just be me, because I mean, I write it and read it and edit it to death and ponder might-have-beens and stuff. Actually, I'm pretty sure it's just me.

As for AsuKure, I've got an ongoing project (which is currently stalled by that freaking CYOA fic) that I'm working on in spurts. I love AsuKure because they're older and thus are open to more adult things, unlike ShikaTema ;_; who I wish were older, but aren't. Older Shikamaru is lookin' pretty hot, though. XD

It's just you. Yes. :p You write them well- I think I especially like it because you manage to keep them believable even with conversation and actual events happening while making it interesting. To me, that's hard for some reason. Maybe that's why I've mostly been writing "moments" of thoughts rather than actual conversation. Everytime I plug in conversation, I get the feeling it becomes really boring...and when I try to spice it up, I end up feeling like I'm not being true to their characters. Then I get pissed off and give up. >_>;

I think I really may give AsuKure a try- I kind of have something in mind. So I might try to write it out before I read any (just so I don't get influenced or something). ^^; But yes...older Shikamaru really is looking rather hot. I did lots of internal squee when he showed up (with Temari first, no less) and then we also got to see him in a little action. :DD

Yes! Do AsuKure! I encourage any and all forms of ficcage for them.

The nature of Shikamaru and Temari's relationship makes it so that they really don't talk all that much, in my opinion. So that makes things even harder since writers are all like, "Well, what now?" That's pretty much what makes a lot of ShikaTema unbelievable for me, excessive amounts of dialogue. Unless they're arguing, they're not going to be waxing long about such-and-such or shrieking like harridans, etc. (which is unfortunately how people like to characterize Temari. I cry.)

The InoShikaCho cover for volume... 33, is it? Totally hot. I squeed for a long time after I saw that one.

Yes! That's exactly it...and also why I have problems writing them. The worst characterization of Temari that I had ever seen was probably this one fic that turned her into a stuttering idiot the moment she sees or talks to Shikamaru. Needless to say, I cringed and closed the page rather quickly. -_-;

Ahh, I know which one you're talking about! I saw the volume at a bookstore and squeed some myself. It would be awesome if I had a scan of it. I can't seem to find it.

I saw the AsuKure icon, and I am so tempted to take it because I love them so, but I only have six slots! So I took the Temari one instead.

I just saw a fic today with a pregnant Temari whose - and I kid you not - dialogue was entirely in capitals. I wanted to look away but I couldn't because Shikamaru's lines were too funny.

Also, thank you for providing the tutorials. I'm going to try the coloring one this weekend!

Ahh, thank you so much for the link! :DD Now I'm all tempted to make some kind of graphics out of it. *grins*

The 6 slots thing is really annoying sometimes- but you can always change the Temari one out when you get tired of it. :) Glad you found something you liked enough to use though!

Lol...all in capitals? Was she screaming at him? I was reading a pregnant Temari fic the other day too- except this one, she's crying left and right. :\ I wonder why authors insist on turning into either a crazy maniac or an emotional freak- and often times make Shikamaru so uncaring that he becomes a complete asshole. Where do you usually go for ShikaTema fics? Fanfiction.net?

Usually I like her work, but this time... I think she should stick to writing ShikaIno. Anyway, Here's the link. It's called "Trimesters". I usually leave FF.net alone because I know if I go there I'm going to get all depressed and emo, so I trawl through communities, interests, and mostly peoples' memories for the best fics. And then I put them in my memories and cackle over my little collection.

Pregnant fics always make me pause because the vast majority of Naruto fic writers have never been pregnant nor will be getting pregnant in the next oh, five, ten years, so all the stereotypes about pregnant women come blasting to the forefront. In cases like these, age really is the determining factor. ;_;

oooooo nana fic...that would be awesome and fun to write...you could write about reiraxshin...a short fic of how he/she feels for the other. naoki! he needs a story since he doesn't get much attention =( then there's nana's past, prior to blast. then there's also a great what if scenario of, what if nobu had the balls to ask hachi to stay with him...wahhhhhhh...

You know...I have thought about writing a NANA fic but I always come up completely blank and I finally realized why. Usually, when I write fics...I ilke to develop stuff that wasn't covered in the actual series- or areas where I want to veer off from the path that the manga took. With NANA, that's hard- because I can't think of a path that I want to detour from or an area that wasn't to my satisfaction. I love everything they've done so far and whatever fic I write, I'd think it wouldn't do it justice. Does that make sense? =_=

And as for the Nobuo asking Hachi to stay...lol. There'd be no story...because in my fic, it'd be Nobuo asked and Hachi still chose Takumi. *evil cackle* Bwahaha...
